Make an Impact
Our dedicated volunteers are an integral and valued part of the Oklahoma Aquarium team! Volunteers provide service in a variety of capacities every day.
Aquarium Ambassadors are the face of the aquarium to our guests, providing information and direction at the front entrance, assisting guests at animal feed stands, and enhancing the guest experience at the interactive touch tanks. With knowledge and exceptional attitudes, we welcome 400,000 visitors each year. Willingness to learn, flexibility to adapt to each day, and a genuine enjoyment of people are all a must.
Aquarium Ambassadors must be 18+ years old and pass a criminal background check. Volunteers ages 13-17 may apply as an Aqua Teen Ambassador. Parental authorization is required.
The volunteer dive team is responsible for keeping our large exhibits looking beautiful. Dive shifts are Monday through Sunday during open aquarium hours. Volunteering as a diver at the aquarium requires dedication and hard work but the reward is getting to swim in breathtaking exhibits with amazing animals. The daily dive shows are a guest favorite; our divers are their own unique attraction!
All divers must be 18+ years old, SCUBA certified, and pass a criminal background check.
Docents serve as education specialists who do hands-on animal presentations, on-site field trip programs, and mobile presentations at area schools and organizations.
Docents must be 18+ years old and pass a criminal background check. Passion for learning and sharing information from our aquatic world are a must!
Summer Teen Program
Teens interested in marine biology will have the opportunity to explore all the aquarium offers in a fun and informative two-week training. Volunteers selected for the program will explore each of our 10 galleries, learning everything about the animals and exhibits. This elite group will also have the opportunity to assist our biology staff behind the scenes with some of the daily duties of an Oklahoma Aquarist.
After completion of the two-week training, teens will be qualified to volunteer as an Ambassador in the aquarium, sharing what they learned with guests.
The program runs from early June until the end of the summer. Attendance for both weeks of training is mandatory. Upon completion of training, a minimum of eight service hours per month is required for the remainder of the program.
In order to apply, students must be in 9th-12th grades. A letter of recommendation from a non-related adult is required with each application. Please send an email of interest to our Volunteer Coordinator, Jamie Gaylor, at email@example.com.
